HE SUFFERS from a rare genetic condition that has left him unable to walk or talk.
But life is getting better for six-year-old Jack Christmas after the east Hull community raised funds to buy him special sensory equipment.
Jack was diagnosed with Mowat-Wilson Syndrome two years ago and is one of only 171 children in the world known to have the condition.
His parents Dawn and Tony, have spent months fundraising to provide Jack with a sensory garden at their home in Gainford Grove.
They have been inundated with people wanting to make donations towards the items Jack needs.
Mr Christmas said: "We are amazed there are so many kind-hearted people out there wanting to help Jack.
"Everyone has been so generous and we cannot thank people enough."
Sarah Russell of Westside Day Nursery provided Jack with chalk boards and a wind chime, while Ings Lane Garden Centre donated a water feature for the garden.
Mr Christmas said: "Jack loves all his new things, especially his waterfall.
"He is always out in the garden. The weather has not been great, but that doesn't stop him.
"I have to keep filling it up with water every couple of days."
Other donations include soft play equipment from staff and children at Bilton Primary School and Kelly's Crafty Corner in Hull.
Jack, a pupil at Tweendykes school, was diagnosed with Mowat-Wilson Syndrome just before his fourth birthday.
Mrs Christmas had a normal pregnancy and Jack appeared to be fine until he was four months old.
Mrs Christmas said: "Jack was hospitalised with a viral infection.
"We then noticed he had stopped doing things he should be and we knew something wasn't right.
"We kept pushing the doctors to find out what was wrong as he couldn't even sit up."
Jack's diagnosis finally came two years ago.
His parents are hoping to raise £4,000 to complete the sensory garden at their home.
Mr Christmas has already taken part in a number of fitness challenges including the Great North Run and the Bridlington Half Marathon.
They have also arranged a Christmas raffle that will be drawn on December 18.
