SANTA's helpers are coming to town to spread some Christmas magic. Elves and reindeer will welcome shoppers to Hull's Christmas market in King Edward Street and Queen Victoria Square on Saturday, December 13. The reindeer will be in a pen near the Christmas tree outside Hull City Hall, where a choir will perform carols and the elves will host a tea party. There will be 30 stalls of Christmas gifts, locally-sourced or handmade products, and food from businesses across the region. Julie Buffey, of Trinity Open Market, has organised this year's Christmas retail event. She said traders will be offering good quality festive gifts and food. She said: "There will be an artisan feel to some of the stalls and people will be able to pick up Christmas gifts and food and drink. Some of them are city centre businesses who are going to become market traders for the day." Kathryn Shillito, HullBID city centre manager, said she is expecting a bumper crowd following the success of last weekend's Victorian-themed market. She said: "We are currently compiling figures and feedback from the Victorian Christmas but we know it was a great success. "Our event with the reindeer and elves offers something different again. "It promises to be a great family event which will attract crowds into the city centre and encourage people to support our local businesses." The following week will see the return of the hugely popular live nativity.
On December 20, Holy Trinity Church is organising a nativity parade around the city centre. The event will also see Trinity Open Market setting up inside the church for a day. Further information is available on the Christmas in Hull website.
