WINDOW manufacturer Safestyle UK has been fined £10,000 after rubbish from its Hull office clear-out was found dumped in a street metres away.
Dozens of Safestyle documents were found in Bedford Street, east Hull, close to the company's office in Cleveland Street.
The company pleaded guilty to two offences at Hull Magistrates Court under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The company received a £10,000 fine, and was told to pay £2,420 costs to the council, which included £900 of cleaning costs, and a victim surcharge of £120.
After receiving reports, the neighbourhood nuisance team visited the site and found large quantities of waste including documents relating to Safestyle UK.
When a representative from the company was interviewed, it was found the Hull branch had organised an office clearance and employed people to remove waste.
However, the rubbish was found dumped just metres from the branch.
The council said Safestyle failed to comply with its duty of care because it did not check that the men who took the rubbish away were authorised waste collectors, nor did it ask where they were taking it to.
Councillor John Hewitt, the council's portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities, said: "It is very disappointing when we see supposedly reputable, well-known companies like this using unauthorised waste carriers who continue to fly-tip across the city."
