After a milder-than-average November, cooler temperatures are on their way to East Yorkshire this week.
In a return to more seasonal weather, maximum temperatures are expected to be between 6C and 8C, but could drop to 4C to 5C within days.
But while many areas of the country will see night-time frosts throughout this week, cloud cover in the Humber region will help keep temperatures a little higher than elsewhere. A frost cannot be ruled out later in the week, however.
Hull-based Lewis Dobson, of UK Weather Forecast, said: "High pressure will dominate the weather this week bringing cooler – more seasonal – and settled weather.
"A front will slide down from the north-west overnight bringing a spell of mainly light rain during the early hours of Tuesday.
"Behind this front, cooler air replaces warmer air which will lead to much cooler temperatures.
"There is a risk of the odd light shower at times."
"Looking ahead, unsettled weather will push in across Scotland on Sunday with another frontal system sliding south to affect many areas, bringing a spell of rain.
"Behind this front, much cooler air will dig in leading to a risk of wintry showers across Scotland and higher ground in the North, although unsettled and slightly milder weather is likely to replace the colder air around Tuesday of next week."
But despite the return to more seasonal weather, with colder interludes at times, there is unlikely to be any significant wintry weather before the middle of the month.
Instead, temperatures will be near-average for December, with generally unsettled conditions.
Mr Dobson said: "At the moment no significant or substantial spell of cold weather is expected before mid-month, but this may well change during the second half of December with colder weather still possible towards the Christmas and New Year period.
"But this is reliant on quite a number of variables coming together within the next few weeks."
