East Yorkshire schools closing early because of snow

Several schools across the East Riding are closing early today due to the snow.

Parents are being advised to check East Riding Councils website for the latest updates on their child's school.
 
It comes after a number of schools were closed first thing this morning after 5cm (2in) of snow fell overnight.
 
A yellow weather warning is in place and the Met Office said more snow would continue to fall.

Sproatley Primary School was due to close at 2pm due to the weather and parents have been advised they can collect their children as soon as they wish.

Skidby Primary School closed at 1.30pm and Patrington School has also now closed. Beverley Manor Nursery will close at 3.45pm prompt, but parents can collect their children early if necessary.

Parents can also check the council's Twitter feed, @East_Riding, for constant weather-related updates.

Schools closed earlier today include Driffield Infants; Driffield Senior; The Market Weighton School; Barmby-on-the-Marsh Primary; Garton-on-the-Wolds Primary; Hutton Cranswick Primary; Kings Mill School; Langtoft School; North Newbald Primary; Sledmere Primary; The Snaith School; Warter Primary and Wetwang Primary and Newbald Primary School. East Riding Council said gritters have been operating around the clock.
