The Coastguard and police were called to Hessle Foreshore last night after a man was seen in the River Humber.
Humber Rescue and a rescue helicopter from Leconfield were also called to the emergency at about 9pm.
A spokesman for HM Coastguard Hull said that, by the time they arrived, the man had found his way to the shore.
He added: "Hull Coastguard, using their stretcher, brought the casualty up to the car park. An ambulance arrived to take the casualty to hospital, the team then stood down."
