HE stepped in to save Cottingham's Christmas lights switch-on after the official event was cancelled.
But now Andy Cox, landlord of the Blue Bell pub in West Green, has had to cancel his plans because of safety fears.
Mr Cox, 39, said: "I have had a visit from the police licensing team this morning and they have advised us to cancel the event.
"They are worried that because the event has been organised at such short notice, too many people would turn up and the pub is too small.
"It is a shame, but at the end of the day they do have a point."
The event was due to be held on Tuesday at 7pm, with BBC radio presenter Steve Massam invited to switch on the lights.
Mr Cox said: "The most I could fit in the pub would be 100 people.
"I tried to get hold of the team I used for security when the music festival was held in Cottingham but they couldn't spare anyone."
The Christmas lights at the pub will now be switched on at some point over the weekend.
Other Cottingham pubs, including the Cross Keys in Northgate and the Duke of Cumberland in Market Green, which had also planned to switch their Christmas lights on at the same time as the Blue Bell's event, will now follow suite and turn the lights on over the weekend.
Mr Cox says that although it is a shame there will be no big event in Cottingham this year, extra effort will be made to put into a Christmas spectacular next year.
He said: "Next year's event will be bigger and better than ever.
"Myself and other businesses have decided to make the green a key focus of the event.
"At least from the attention we have got this year, next year will be even better and more people will be invited."
