FOR the first time since 2010, Hull's Christmas lights switch-on will culminate in a fireworks display. Hull City Council, which organises the annual event, say crowds are in for a treat on Thursday, November 27. Fireworks will blast off from the roof of Osborne Street car park, offering crowds in Queen Victoria Square the perfect viewing point. The display will take place at 6.40pm just as Lord Mayor, Councillor Mary Glew, who will be joined by characters from the film Frozen on the balcony of Hull City Hall, flicks the switch. From 5pm to 7pm, spectators will be treated to music and entertainment, hosted by local opera singer Leroy Vickers. There will also be performances by emerging rapper Nineties Boy, who wowed crowds at this year's Humber Street Sesh, Bobbie Diamond and Emmie Craft. Star Search 2014 winner, Grace Christensen, is also expected to perform. Santa's grotto, complete with live reindeer, will be open in King Edward Street from 5pm, and Hull Pie will be selling pie and mash to keep visitors warm throughout the event. Councillor Terry Geraghty said: "This event really does mark the start of Christmas in Hull and the atmosphere in Queen Victoria Square after the countdown is just magical. "The addition of the fireworks display adds to this already fantastic occasion and I'd like to thank Hull BID and Princes Quay for partly sponsoring them."
