Over 250 motorists and more than 20 passengers were caught not wearing a seatbelt during a month-long Humberside Police awareness campaign.
Figures released to the Mail show 276 people, including two passengers aged under 13, were caught either by officers who had noticed an offence while on patrol, or safety cameras, during September.
In all, 255 drivers and 21 passengers were found not to be wearing a seatbelt.
Officers on patrol caught 39 people not wearing a seatbelt in the East Riding and 16 in Hull. Humberside Police caught a further 87 motorists in other parts of the force area.
Another 134 people were caught on camera across the force area. The statistics were revealed as Humberside Police throws its weight behind road safety charity Brake's own Look Out For Each Other campaign, which launches across the region today.
Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive at Brake, said: "When drivers use roads without care for others, the consequences can be tragic and horrific.
"People can be killed and badly injured and lives can be ruined for ever because of a moment of impatience or selfishness.
"At Brake we witness the suffering that results, daily, through our work supporting people affected by road death and injury. And there are wider consequences if we do not look out for each other on roads – people afraid to walk and cycle or let their kids walk and cycle and unable to get out and enjoy their communities and live active lifestyles."
According to Brake, a fixed penalty for careless driving or speeding is issued in Yorkshire and the Humber area every seven minutes.
And a third of primary school children in the region say they have been hit or nearly hit by a vehicle while on foot or bike.
Chief Constable Suzette Davenport, of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), said: "Our officers and staff do a vital job in enforcing important safety laws and protecting the public on the roads.
"Road Safety Week is a great opportunity for forces and partners to engage with their local communities to deliver important road safety messages and undertake enforcement activities."
