THE organisers of tomorrow's eagerly anticipated fireworks display in North Bransholme are promising residents a night to remember.

More than 3,500 people are set to descend on Dales Leisure Centre as one of the estate's biggest events takes centre stage.

Police and crime commissioner Matthew Grove will light the first of dozens of fireworks, which, it is hoped, will impress visitors from across the city.

The showcase will begin at 6pm, with people urged to get there as early as possible.

Bransholme East councillor Anita Harrison said: "It is going to be a fantastic event.

"It really has got bigger and better. It will be a night to remember.

"My only concern is if it keeps getting bigger, where are we going to put everyone?

"We are confident there will be in excess of 3,500 people, but there could easily be more than 4,000.

"Volunteers work so hard to put great events on for the people who live in Bransholme and this is another example of it.

"But this is more than that, because people come from all over the place."

People will gather on the main field next to Snowden Way.

There will be four marquees, including stalls and games for the children.

Refreshments, including a burger van, will also be available.

Mr Grove said: "I am well and truly honoured to be lighting the first firework at what is a fantastic event.

"One of my main roles as police and crime commissioner is working for the community.

"I really am thrilled and excited to be a part of what is a huge event, not just for Bransholme but for the city, too.

"Bransholme really is one of my favourite places to visit because firstly, you always get a good cup of tea and secondly, you always get a good dose of honesty.

"I am really looking forward to it."

Meanwhile, organisers are urging motorists to take care when they park their vehicles before the event.

Bransholme East councillor Peter Clark said: "I am going to the event and I cannot wait to get there.

"It is something we all look forward to. Nowhere in the area does it better than Bransholme in my opinion.

"The only thing I would ask is for motorists to park carefully, take their time, and think about nearby residents."

Organiser Ray Drayton said: "We are looking forward to putting on another exciting fireworks display for Bonfire Night."
