Tommy Coyle joined Luke Campbell as a resounding victor on a sensational night of boxing at the Hull Arena.
Throwing arguably the best left hook of his life, Coyle sent former world title challenger Michael Katsidis crashing to the canvas with a shot which the Australian couldn't recover from.
Coyle's incredible stoppage came just moments after Campbell had sent his own message to the lightweight division with a fifth-rouned stoppage of durable Argentinian Daniel Brizuela.
"I'm lost for words," said Coyle. "Michael Katsidis is someone I've looked up to since he started and I can't believe what happened."
Campbell dismantled Brizuela before stepping up the intensity further in the fifth with a flurry of heavy shots which eventually saw his opponent in no position to continue.
"I knew what I was up against, he's a tough and durable kid so I'm really happy to stop him as I did," said Campbell.
"I was overwhelmed with the crowd and the support they gave me from my entrance too through the fight. As each round went on I got better."
Following the fight promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed Hull's two lightweight superstars remain on course to meet each other at the KC Stadium next May.
The night also proved to be a resounding success for the undercard of Hull boxers. Connor Seymour started proceedings with a 39-38 points win over Dee Mitchell, a score repeated by Charlie Payton against Ibrar Riyaz.
In a six-round contest Tom Knight got a 59-56 decision against Gary Cooper, while the local battle between Nathon Smith and Danny Little ended in a draw.Samir Mouniemne warmed up for his British featherweight title eliminator next month with a 59-55 points victory against Michael Ramabeletsa.
