Guide to Halloween 2014 events in Hull and East Riding

Fiendish Fun at the Deep

The Deep's 'Fiendish Fun' event is ideal for parents looking to keep the kids occupied during half-term. Activities include Halloween-themed trails, face painting and crafts, and there will be a daily dive show at 2pm, where visitors can watch the sharks and rays being fed.

Visitors will also be given the opportunity to watch a film featuring the now famous Gentoo penguins, which arrived at The Deep earlier this year. The film, which will be shown at 11.30am, 1pm and 3.30pm each day in the Endless Oceans gallery, documents the penguins' journey across the Atlantic from Texas, USA.

'Fiendish Fun' runs from today (Saturday October 25) until Sunday, November 2, with opening times 10am – 6pm. Normal fees apply.


Halloween Half-Term at Hornsea Freeport

Another event perfect for the kids this month is Hornsea Freeport's 'Halloween Half-term'. Activities include trick or treatin', creepy craft workshops, fancy dress competitions, cauldron trails, a pumpkin festival, face painting and more.

The event runs from today until Sunday, November 2, but please note that the creepy craft workshops and the Pumpkin Festival at Williams Farm Kitchen will only run up to Friday (October 31).


Pumpkin trail at Burton Agnes Hall

The 'Spooky Pumpkin Trail' at Burton Agnes Hall runs from today until Sunday, November 2. Children are invited along to solve clues found in pumpkins as they explore the haunted woodlands.

The trail is a family friendly event so parents needn't miss out on the fun. The event runs from 11am – 4pm, with prices as follows: Adults £6.00, seniors £5.50, children £3.50, under 5s free.


Howling Night 2 – Halloween show at The Spa Bridlington

The Bridlington Spa is to hold its second annual Howling Night on Wednesday, October 29. Audience members are encouraged to turn up in Halloween-themed outfits for the 'All Singing, All Dancing Spooktacular', with prizes to be handed out for the best-dressed.

Performers include Marie Kev Flanagan, Dan Furniss and Gary Marsden among many others. The show starts at 7.15pm, with prices as follows: Adults £11.00, concessions £9.00, children £8.00, family tickets (2 +2) £30.00.

Dracula's Ghosts

The Spa's Halloween week continues the following night, Thursday October 30, with the theatre production of 'Dracula's Ghost'. Not one for the kids, 'Dracula's Ghost' tells the story of how Mina Harker's body is possessed by the spirit of the vampire.

The show starts at 7.30pm and admission prices are as follows: Adults £10.00, concessions £8.00.

The Not So Spooky Halloween Show

The Spa's three days of activities conclude with 'The Not So Spooky Halloween Show' featuring children's entertainer Magic Mike. The show, which will provide fun for all the family, starts at 2pm on Friday October 31. Tickets cost £6.50.


Halloween Fun Day at Hornsea Museum

Hornsea Museum will be holding a Halloween Fun Day on Thursday, October 30. Visitors are encouraged to turn up in fancy dress and there will be a number of craft activities to keep the young ones entertained.

The event will run from 10am – 2pm, with admission prices as follows: Children £3.50, Adults £1.00.


Nightmare on Prospect Street at Prospect Shopping Centre (three events on the day)

Prospect Centre in Hull is to host a day full of events as part of its Halloween celebrations on Friday. 'Nightmare on Prospect Street' is expected to prove very popular. Things get underway at 2pm with the 'Little Pumpkins' event at strEAT food court. Activities include arts and crafts, face painting, balloons and trick or treatin' around the Centre. A free party will be held which will include juice and Halloween treats.

Visitors' survival skills will also be put to the test with the release of zombies. Every hour, on the hour, the undead beasts will be released for twenty minutes in Prospect Centre.

The main event, 'Locked in Prospect', gets underway at 8pm. Visitors are invited to take a tour of Prospect Centre after dark and discover the spirits that haunt the shopping centre at night. TV medium Ralph Keeton will also undertake a real paranormal investigation as part of the event. Tickets are priced £25.00 and, with spaces limited, people are advised to book early to avoid disappointment. Pumpkin Carving and Wacky Walks: Trick or Treat?

Sewerby Hall will be hosting two Halloween-themed activities on Friday, October 31. Pumpkin-carving will take place from 10.30am to noon and from 1pm to 2.30pm. Children attending must be at least six years old. The event costs £5 (one adult and one child), with booking and pre-payment required as places are limited to 20 per session.

The second event taking place at Sewerby Hall is 'Wacky Walks: Trick or Treat!' There are no age restrictions for the event and the above prices apply (£5.00 for one adult and one child). Booking and pre-payment is again required as places are limited to 30 per session.


'Hallowscream' at York Maze

York Maze will be holding its annual 'Hallowscream' event. The popular event features numerous attractions. Times and ticket prices vary. Full details can be found on the York Maze website.

For those with young children, the Maze is holding 'Halloween by Day' events.


Scary tales for the young ones A suitably macabre tale for youngsters takes centre stage on Halloween at Pocklington Arts Centre on Friday. Horse & Bamboo Theatre's Hansel and Gretel uses a combination of puppetry, music and special effects. For age five and up. Pocklington Arts Centre, Market Square, Pocklington, on Friday, 2.30pm.
