A CONVICTED killer will take a lie detector test this weekend as he continues to insist he was not responsible for a shotgun murder almost 20 years ago.
Lyndon Coles has just been released from prison after serving a life sentence for the murder of Shane George in January 1994.
Mr George, 21, was blasted at point-blank range as he answered the front door of his home in Coltman Street, west Hull.
Former heroin user Coles, 49, has always claimed he was framed and has vowed to carry on fighting to clear his name despite the completion of his jail sentence.
Now, he has confirmed he will sit a polygraph test at his parents' East Riding home on Sunday.
Coles' father, Bob, 69, who has arranged the test and promised to reveal the result, said: "It may not be recognised by the legal system but 99 per cent of guilty people would not take a lie detector test.
"Many companies, other governments, and even the Jeremy Kyle Show use them."
Mr Coles took a polygraph test himself in 2004 when key prosecution witnesses retracted their statements, claiming he had bullied them.
He denied the allegation and a lie detector test suggested Mr Coles was telling the truth.
Mr Coles said: "He will be asked two or three simple questions about the murder. Obviously the main one will be 'Did you kill Shane George?'
"The result will not mean anything to a court but we hope it will show to the public that he has been telling the truth for the past 19 years."
Mr Coles said a person, who wished to remain anonymous, has offered to pay for the test, which is expected to cost £600.
"The test will be done at my house and it will be recorded," he said. "We hope it will strengthen our case."
Another man, Robert Bradley, was also convicted of Mr George's murder. Both men were found guilty by a jury following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court in 1996.
Prosecutors had argued Coles and Bradley had gone to Mr George's home, intending to teach him a "painful lesson" over a dispute.
It was claimed Coles and Bradley – still thought to be in prison – had intended to "kneecap" Mr George, but the pellets shot upwards into his stomach and groin.
No weapon was recovered.
Mr George's family have always insisted police caught the killers.
Mr Coles says his family is already planning a "publicity campaign" to get to what they say is the truth behind the killing.
He said: "We will be plastering this town with the names of who we believe is responsible for a cover-up. "Humberside Police will have to come for me sooner or later. It may be I have to get myself arrested for the truth to come out.
"We are not going to go away."
This week, the family of Mr George asked why, if neither had anything to do with the murder, Bradley had chosen not to fight his conviction.
