THE man charged with leading Hull's year as the UK City of Culture 2017 is set to give his early thoughts on what lies ahead at a series of events next month.

Martin Green took up his full-time role as chief executive of the Hull 2017 company on October 3.

Before that, he produced the start of the Tour de France in Yorkshire but is perhaps best known for producing the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics.

Now based permanently in Hull, he will host three events on Thursday, November 20, to provide an update on plans for the 2017 programme.

They will coincide with the first anniversary of Hull winning the title after the city's bid was chosen ahead of Leicester, Swansea and Dundee.

Mr Green said: "As we move on from being a bidding city to delivery city, I want to take the opportunity to lay out what happens from now for the Culture Company and how we plan from now to 2017 and beyond.

"I want to tell people how we are recruiting, how the team will grow and how opportunities may arise from that.

"Importantly, I want to use this opportunity for people to ask us questions and have input into the planning process."

The new company will be based in the Pacific Exchange building in High Street in the city's Old Town.

The first event, on November 20, at Ferens Art Gallery, will be an invitation-only breakfast meeting for cultural organisations, artists, producers, venues, community arts groups and creative organisations.

They are expected to play a leading part in the 2017 programme.

Mr Green will then go on to address 160 young people who are attending an event hosted by the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

During that session, he will also take questions from pupils from Malet Lambert School, Prospect Training, Archbishop Sentamu Academy and Wyke Sixth Form College.

Students from Hull College, Hull Training Construction, Hull Training Raywell, St Mary's College, Sirius Academy and the University of Hull will also be in attendance.

The final event will be open to the public in the Live Arts Space at Ferens Art Gallery, at 6pm. Residents will be able to ask questions, as well as hearing about the initial planning work being carried out.

Admission to the session is free and open to all. However, access will be by ticket only.
