A BAR could be facing closure after a man suffered a fractured skull in a violent assault.

The 32-year-old man also had a fractured eye socket after the attack inside, or close to, the Relax Russian bar in Spring Bank, city centre.

Humberside Police have applied for the bar's licence to be reviewed because of concerns about "serious disorder".

Officers from Hull's licensing team applied for the review after the attack occurred on New Year's Day.

It followed a serious assault between Russian and Polish men at the bar in December 2011.

Two Polish men suffered serious injuries after a fight inside the club spilled out on to the street.

The review will take place next week during a special hearing of Hull City Council's licensing committee.

The licensing committee could force the club to close, stop it from selling alcohol or cut its opening hours.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "We will welcome the findings of the review."

One user of the Mail's website posted: "I live near this bar and every time it is open, there is always trouble and fighting.

"The noise of the music and the people often wakes us up, but nothing ever seems to be done about it.

"A few months ago, two people were stabbed as the result of a fight from there but still it was allowed to reopen and all was forgotten.

"I still feel the police need to do something about it and close it down.

"Others have all been closed for trouble but this place seems to always get off with anything that happens.

"I just hope now something will be done because I find it scary to live close to."

Humberside Police have applied for the review under the Licensing Act.

A notice posted outside the club says: "The grounds for the review are that, in the view of Humberside Police, the premises are involved in serious disorder."

Residents were given until yesterday to submit representations to the committee.

The bar owner did not respond to a Mail request for a comment.
