Hull City look for emergency goalkeeper but promising youngster Rory Watson waits in wings

HULL City are exploring the possibility of signing a goalkeeper on an emergency loan basis as they face up to being without both Allan McGregor and Steve Harper this weekend. Eldin Jakupovic could be the only senior keeper available to manager Steve Bruce for Saturday's trip to Liverpool after Harper joined McGregor in the treatment room with a bicep injury suffered in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal. Bruce had initially stated he would cut short Mark Oxley's loan spell at Hibernian, but City yesterday clarified that such action could only be taken during the January transfer window. That leaves Jakupovic as the last man standing if Harper and McGregor are unable to recover in time for the Anfield test and Bruce is weighing up a move into the loan market. Although the transfer window closed for teams in the Premier League on September 1, rules state that clubs are allowed room for manoeuvre in the event of goalkeepers falling to injury. It is likely any new arrival would only be required to serve as understudy to Jakupovic at Anfield and theoretically could only be needed as cover for a week. McGregor has been able to take part in light training outdoors over the past week and it is expected he will be back in time to face either Southampton on November 1 or Burnley a week later. Promotion from within is a possibility in the short-term. Rory Watson, 18, is highly regarded by goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh and recently travelled with the City squad for the 2-2 draw at Newcastle last month for experience.
