Police cordoned off North Bridge in Hull city centre when a man climbed over the barrier.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 3pm amid fears for the man's safety.
Firefighters were called to assist police officers, who were seen on the bridge speaking to the man.
He eventually climbed back over the barrier and was not hurt.
The bridge was closed off to motorists for about half-an-hour before officers lifted the cordon.
