PRIDE of place in a newly built nursing home is a nostalgic street offering residents the chance to pop for a pint or get their hair and nails done.
Residents in the newly opened Magdalen Park in Hedon have access to their own pub, hairdressers and nail bar to entertain visiting friends and relatives.
The mock street, complete with nostalgic façade, has been proving extremely popular with residents and their families.
Jonathan Garton, operations director of Yorkare, which owns the Magdalen Lane home, said: "The pub is used all the time, most evenings families come in.
"The residents tend to have sherries before dinner and they can come in with their families for a beer. We have a piano where we have a nightly sing-a-long."
In total, £4m was invested in the facility, which includes 64 beds, of which there are two, 12-bed dementia wings.
Mr Garton says having the mock street means residents are not confined to lounges when their relatives visit.
Mr Garton said: "We have found from experience that these are great destinations for people.
"If someone is visiting their mum or grandma, they can go down to the nail bar and get their nails done together. Residents can take their family for a pint in the bar or get something from the shop."
The home was specially built after Mr Garton saw the need for specialist nursing care in the area.
Currently there are 30 residents, which is ahead of forecast and has meant the first floor has been opened ahead of schedule.
Mr Garton said: "It is a fabulous building and the response from our open days has been phenomenal."
When the care home is full about 110 staff will be employed with an annual payroll of £1.4m.
Mr Garton says this will help the area's economy as people will spend this cash in Hedon.
As well as the pub, hairdressers and shop, the home includes three gardens, outdoor seating areas on every floor, and a short bowling green.
There is also an entertainment room with children's toys and Skype facilities for residents who live further from their families.
Outside there will also be a chicken coop and a roof-top garden.
Resident Bob Jackson was the first person to look around the home.
He has moved back to Hedon to live near his daughter and says the facilities are fantastic.
Mr Jackson said: "It's absolutely fabulous. I have a large room and it is marvellous."
