POLICE are investigating after a 'lit item' was thrown at the doorway of a newsagents in Spring Bank.
The area outside TK News, close to the junction with Ferensway, was cordoned off by police and fire investigators this morning.
Police said a fire was reported at the store at 1.53am today.
A Humberside Police spokesman said: "The fire was quickly extinguished and nobody sustained injuries.
"The investigation is ongoing to identify the person responsible with house-to-house and CCTV enquiries."
Last month, the Mail reported how shop owner Qahir Azigzay is importing tonnes of rice each year through his business Kabul Trading.
He fled war-torn Afghanistan in 1990, arriving in Britain as a refugee.
He moved across the country before opening his newsagent in Hull two years ago.
Speaking to the Mail last month, he said: "I like this city, so I moved to Hull.
"I came to the UK as a refugee. We had a lot of trouble in Afghanistan for a long time."
Anyone with information about the fire should call Humberside Police on 101.
