A controversial application to open a fresh meat stall in King Edward Street, Hull city centre, has been withdrawn.
Dean Dixon had applied for a street trading licence to operate the business in King Edward Street, next to an existing fruit and veg stall.
His plan was to sell uncooked meat, sausages, burgers and fresh eggs.
The application was due to go before licensing councillors this morning but has been withdrawn.
Although the reasons for the withdrawal have not been revealed, the application was facing opposition from the police and a ward councillor.
As reported last week, Humberside Police lodged a formal objection along with Councillor Colin Inglis, whose ward covers the city centre.
In a letter to the council, police licensing officer Gary Parker said: "It is the view of the police that as the area already has a permit allowing the sale of fruit and vegetables, a second concession would add unacceptably to the [reduction of] space available to pedestrians."
Cllr Inglis said there were plenty of empty shops available and questioned the timing of the application just months before a major refurbishment of the area.
