Police cordoned off Belgrave Road near Bridlington seafront after a man barricaded himself in his home.
Humberside Police were called shortly after 5.30pm on Friday by a woman who said she was concerned for her safety.
A large number of officers, some carrying Tasers, were sent to the street, which is at the heart of the resort's hotel and B&B district and not far from Bridlington Spa.
The man finally agreed to leave the property just before 8pm.
Andrew John Essers, 42, was arrested and charged with assault by beating.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge at Beverley Magistrates' Court today. He was remanded in custody and will appear at the magistrates' court again on Wednesday.
