Police have cordoned off a section of beach in Bridlington following reports of an unexploded device.
Officers were called to South Shore beach at 11.28am.
Bomb disposal experts are at the scene but have been unable to examine the device because of the tide.
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "Police were called this morning reporting a possible historic unexploded device on the South Shore beach, Kingsgate, Bridlington.
"The area has been cordoned off as a precaution. Coast guards are also in attendance."
