A SPECIAL effects expert from East Yorkshire died after falling from a cliff while working on the remake of blockbuster film Dracula Untold.

An inquest heard Granville Mark Haddenham was worrying about his work on the Warner Brothers film when he went for a walk along Bempton Cliffs, near Bridlington, to "clear his head".

His body was spotted face-down in the water by visitors to the RSPB viewing centre shortly after he left his home in Main Street, Buckton, on Sunday, May 25.

Mr Haddenham, 52, had worked on several high-profile television programmes, including Game Of Thrones, and "numerous blockbuster productions", such as Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

In a statement read to the inquest, his wife Jacqueline described Mr Haddenham as a "creative thinker" who was "meticulous and thorough" with his work.

She said: "He was highly regarded, respected, meticulous in planning and organising.

"He operated in tight time frames, under considerable amounts of pressure but he thrived on each and every challenge.

"He was a proud father of four children and had close and loving relationships with all of his family."

A post-mortem examination found Mr Haddenham, who was known as Mark, died from multiple injuries after he fell from the 300ft "sheer drop".

He had been working on Dracula Untold in Watford at the time but had returned home to his family for the weekend.

He left the house at 8am on Sunday, having returned home the night before, to find somewhere "peaceful and quiet" to think the project through.

Emergency services were alerted after a member of the public saw a body floating near to Crab Rocks, about 150m out to sea, at 8.50am.

His body was recovered from the water and taken to South Landing in Flamborough.

Police and teams from Bridlington Coastguard carried out a search of the area and found a patch of flattened grass on Bempton Cliffs.

There were also four heart-shaped stickers, red beads and red carnation flower petals stuck on top of a nearby fence post. From there, there was a "track" leading to the cliff edge.

Mr Haddenham's silver Peugeot was found at the car park.

An inquest was held to establish if the fall could have been suicide, but Mrs Haddenham said it was unlikely the petals were from her husband because he did not like carnations.

There was no suicide note left and she said he would often go somewhere quiet to think about work.

Her initial statement to police said was Mr Haddenham was "stressed" because his business partner had taken time off work.

However, at the inquest, Mrs Haddenham, who met her husband at Sheffield Art College in 1981, said she did not think he intended to end his life.

She said: "It was a particular job he was worrying about, but that is why he went off to drive somewhere quiet. It was no more problematic than most things at work.

"He was a very creative thinker and I think, if anything, he would have been distracted while walking."

Recording an open conclusion, Hull and East Riding coroner Rosemary Baxter said: "I can find no evidence this was what the deceased intended.

"He did not appear to be depressed, he had a lot to live for and he had no financial worries."
