AROUND 300 people descended on Dene Park, in Dunswell, today for a football match in memory of murdered Hull chef Steven Herbert.
Mr Herbert, a father-of-two, was killed at the junction of Trafalgar Street and Beverley Road early on New Year's Day.
This afternoon, friends and teammates of Mr Herbert, a keen amateur footballer, united to raise money for British Heart Foundation.
Mr Herbert's former team, Hull North Tigers, lost 2-1 to Hessle in a close contest.
Organiser Mike Butler said: "It was an emotional occasion. The football match itself was like any other. But once it was finished and you realised why you were doing it in the first place, it really hit home.
"We believe we have already raised in the region of £1,000 for British Heart Foundation.
"I want to thank everyone for turning up. Steven was a great man and would help with anything. We were especially good friends at school."
Steven's partner, Kim Field, presented the cup to Hessle after the match.
Tiffany Clark, 23, Soul Humphries, 22, and Samuel Jordan, 22, were found guilty of his murder in July following a trial lasting two-and-a-half weeks at Hull Crown Court.Full reaction and more pictures in tomorrow's Hull Daily Mail.
