A speeding motorist who killed a Barton teenager while driving on the wrong side of the road has been jailed for six years.
Damien Benson, 24, of High Street, Barton, was driving between 48mph and 52mph when he hit 15-year-old Koen Allwood in the town's Dam Road, a 30mph zone.
Koen, an aspiring journalist described as "clever, funny and caring", was walking with his friend Katie Gregg at the time, shortly after presenting his first radio programme on WildCube, an internet-based station.
Katie, who was 15 at the time of the crash on November 13 last year, suffered serious injuries.
Speaking outside Grimsby Crown Court, Koen's mum Lizzie Paterson said: "This day should never have happened, however the judge took it seriously and within the law did the best she could."
Benson admitted causing the death of Koen by dangerous driving and causing serious injury to Katie by dangerous driving.
Judge Jacqueline Davies told him: "You were driving at a speed between 48mph and 52mph - well in excess of the speed limit of 30mph.
"You accelerated to that speed. You didn't moderate your speed at the give way sign and you were on the wrong side of the road."
