A South Cave antiques shop, described by experts as the "hidden gem of Yorkshire", will feature on BBC Two's Antiques Road Trip programme.

The film crew from the popular series, including antiques experts Anita Manning and Paul Laidlaw, descended on Olde English Furniture in Sands Lanes on Wednesday.

Owner Fiona Neve said: "I get asked all the time to do shows like this because we are quite a large antique business.

"In the past I have turned them down but, for some reason, this time I decided to say yes."

Antiques Road Trip sees experts set off on a journey around the UK searching for treasures and competing to make the most money at auction.

The episode featuring the South Cave shop will air on BBC Two in February.

Mrs Neve, 39, said: "They were here for a number of hours filming – it was all very exciting.

"Anita Manning even described the shop as the hidden gem of Yorkshire, which is absolutely fantastic.

"Normally the experts only buy one or two items from the shops they visit but while they were here they bought five items, which was great for us."

Mrs Neve left her job as manager of a B&Q store in Hull in February to take over Olde English Furniture from her parents, Malcolm and Julia Jewitt, following their retirement.

"It was a big decision to leave B&Q as I loved my job, but I have definitely made the right choice," Mrs Neve said.

"I love everything about antique items – they all have a story behind them.

"I have a few Georgian pieces in the shop that are more than 300 years old."

Mrs Neve is hoping the shop's appearance on national television will attract more people to South Cave to see what the shop has to offer.

She said: "There are not many antique shops left now and those that are, well, the majority of them are down south, so it is nice for us to get some recognition of what we do."

Antique furniture and collectables

Olde English Furniture stocks an extensive range of antique furniture and collectibles.

As a specialist in antique furniture, the family-run business boasts more than 50 years' experience within the antiques trade.

Owner Fiona Neve buys and sells to collectors across the UK and exports many items to the US.

Mrs Neve said: "Whether you are looking for traditional style or shabby chic, our extensive range of antique furniture boasts variety enough to suit all tastes.

"We also stock a wealth of collectibles, ranging from fine glassware, antique jewellery, ivory figurines, stuffed animals and everything in between.

"We have items ranging from £3 to £3,000, so there is something for every budget."
