Hull's Steve Robins will have to wait another year before he gets a second chance to follow in the footsteps of Richard Finch and David Lynn on the PGA European Tour.
Playing over the Blue Course at Frilford Heath in stage one, Robins negotiated the 54-hole cut but with rounds of 71/76/71 and 68, his two-under-par total of 286 saw him just four shots short of the mark that saw 28 players advance to stage two from a 100-plus field.
Former Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard, who had rounds of 76/74 and 79, also missed out as he failed to advance beyond the 54-hole cut.
Robins was obviously downcast on his return to Hull, but said: "The Tour school really was not on my radar in the early part of the year but the chance to play came along and I have now seen what is required if I am going to compete at that level.
"Yes, the second round proved costly, but I just had an off day with the putter."
Reflecting on a successful season, Robins added: "I have put in some good performances in nationally-rated events and my world ranking has improved by over a thousand places.
"In the Yorkshire Amateur, I won the Alvin Trophy as the leading qualifier and I have been selected to play for Yorkshire.
"I would probably have settled for this if asked at the beginning of the season.
"After spending winter working at my game, I shall look for another successful season of amateur golf before having a second crack at the Tour School."
