A MAN is launching a "selfie" campaign to get woolly hats for cancer patients after his brother was diagnosed with cancer for the third time.

Kye Eastwood, 23, was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma just before Christmas 2012 and lost his hair after undergoing chemotherapy.

Doctors discovered the cancer had returned last year but he was also diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and had gruelling chemotherapy again.

Kye is preparing for his third bout of chemotherapy treatment after tests showed the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma has returned.

His brother Dan, 27, is now launching a "hats off for teenage cancer" selfie appeal.

He is encouraging people on Facebook and Twitter to donate woolly hats for people like Kye who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Dan, a well-known musician on Hull's music scene who performs under the name Daniel Rhythm, said: "He's lost his hair and will need to wear woolly hats to keep his head warm during the winter.

"It's a big deal for a young man to lose his hair and yet he's gone through it three times now.

"Doing something like this will help not just Kye but other patients who have lost their hair and it will mean a lot to Kye to know that even people who don't know him are supporting him."

Kye is one of the few people in the country to be diagnosed with both Hodgkin's lymphoma and non- Hodgkin's lymphoma, although doctors have told him the Hodgkin's lymphoma is now in remission.

Dan said: "He is being very positive and spends a lot of his time working on cars, which he loves.

"The nurses and doctors have been amazing.

"I hope any hats we get will help Kye and the Teenage Cancer Unit at Castle Hill Hospital but if it takes off, it could really help other cancer units and their patients around the country."

People can take part by taking photographs of themselves wearing their hats and posting them on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #hatsoffforteenagecancer to show their support.

Fit 24 in St Stephen's shopping centre has a collection bin for the woolly hats donated to the appeal.

The gym will also donate the £5 joining fee for every member who signs up to their reduced £15 membership to the Teenage Cancer Trust if they bring a copy of today's Mail.

Kye, who is preparing for another round of chemotherapy, said he was impressed by his brother's attempts to help him.

"I'm completely bald now and I can't find any of my hats so when he came up with this, I thought it was a brilliant idea," he said.

"It won't just help me, it could help other people with cancer."
