Firefighters were called to an overheated Christmas pudding at an address in Highfield Rise, Preston.
The festive treat caused heavy smoke logging to the property as well as heat damage to the microwave.
It happened shortly after 6pm on Tuesday.
Oxygen therapy was administered to an elderly man and woman who were suffering smoke inhalation.
The smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarms at the house were both activated.
