A woman from Hornsea who fraudulently claimed £26,419.58 in benefits has been ordered to pay back the money.
Sonja Davison, 52, of Eastgate View, appeared at Beverley Magistrates' Court, where she pleaded guilty to dishonestly making a false statement affecting her entitlement to council tax benefit and income support. The case was brought following a joint probe by East Riding Council and the Department for Work and Pensions, which discovered Davison had failed to declare capital of more than £16,000.
As well as being told to repay the money, which she received between August 2002 and last year, Davison was given a six-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months. She was also given 100 hours of unpaid work and told to pay £85 towards costs.
