Hull KR coach Chris Chester frustrated by under-achieving season

Hull KR coach Chris Chester says his side's 42-18 win at Wakefield sums up his frustration at an under-achieving season.

Describing the first half at the Wildcats as probably the best 40 minutes of rugby Rovers have played this year, Chester's frustration stems from it coming far too late in the campaign to mean anything.

Already out of the play-offs, victory came too late but did at least assure the Robins of a ninth-place finish.

With KR's 2014 season consigned to history, Chester is hoping this performance can be the norm rather than the exception next season.

"I thought we were dominant for the first hour of the game," he said.

"The first half was probably the best half of rugby we've played and I'm proud of the honesty and commitment shown to each other.

"But it's the story of our season. We've been inconsistent all season. There are some things to fix up but we're happy with the result, not how the season has panned out.

"That's the most frustrating thing for me as coach. I know they can do it, but doing it consistently has been a problem."

Chester was pleased with another solid performance from young back Macauley Hallett, who took his tally to three Super League tries in two games with a first-half double.

Chester, who admits to having doubts about Hallett's application, is delighted to have been proven wrong.

"I had big doubts about Macauley's attitude," he explained. "But he has turned himself around to get himself in the team. I knew he had talent because he is the top try scorer for the under-19s.

"Macauley defended well as well as taking his two tries very well. He's been good the last two weeks and he's proved me wrong."
