In all the excitement over transfer deadline day and fans looking forward to seeing Hull City's new signings, it's easy to forget Monday marks Michael Dawson's home debut, writes Dean Windass.
I know Michael well, I know what he will bring to Hull City on and off the field and because of that I know he will be a very good addition.
Michael is very similar to his brother Andy, as you'd probably expect.
They are both very grounded family men, with a great attitude.
Moving back up north close to his family, I'm sure it won't take Michael long to adapt and while it was a bit of a shaky start on his debut at Aston Villa, he's going to get better and better for Hull.
I remember Wayne Jacobs saying to me once, that as a defender once you get into your thirties it starts to get much harder as your legs go.
It happens to all players, but as a centre forward you don't have to rely on your pace if you are intelligent enough. I certainly never had any to rely on.
The difficulty for defenders these days are forwards being quick and tricky and they need to stay with their man.
Michael has still got a few years left in him, but the key for me is he doesn't need to play that role.
James Chester and Curtis Davies can be the two to track strikers and stay on their shoulders.
The benefit of having Michael in the side is he can play the sweeper role and use all his experience to be in the right place and make sure his defenders around him are in the right place too.
City's biggest strength since Steve Bruce arrived at the club has been their defence. And with Michael now settled at the club, that defence is looking a whole lot stronger moving forward.
