THREE tries in each half and a 100 per cent kicking performance from Isaac Green got Hull Ionians' National Two North campaign underway with a comfortable 45-17 victory over Caldy.
Green opened the scoring in the opening minute with a penalty before Jon Steel stretched the lead with a 50m interception try.
They went further ahead when Green and winger Wilson combined for a run in from 40 metres.
Ionians were dominant in the pack with Caldy content to kick deep to the corner to keep the hosts at bay.
They gained reward when the home side were caught offside and Vasey kicked the penalty.
Ionians' dominance in the scrum resulted in a penalty try just before the break to lift the score to 24-3.
Ionians began the second half with purpose and a break from full-back Mike Bateman provided a try for the supporting Alex Campbell to extend the lead to 31-3.
Caldy hit back with a period of sustained pressure, and Vasey ghosted through a stretched defence for a try and goal to pull the scores back to 31-10.
The visitors briefly upped the pace and were active along the backline, but Ionians brought the game back under control with Alex Torkington grounding the ball after a 15m drive from the scrum.
Caldy were hampered by a series of injuries, but produced a flourish towards the final whistle. After Hague departed for a deliberate knock-on, Gavin Roberts powered through the midfield for a try which he goaled himself to bring the score to 38-17.
The final play belonged to the hosts with promising youngster Ben Smith jinking past his marker before delivering a lovely off-load to Sam Wilson, who shipped onto Steve Slingsby to dive in at the corner.
Fittingly, Green added the difficult conversion to cap a good individual performance and complete the scoring.
