Hull FC effectively ended the play-off hopes of their bitter rivals with a 28-0 win over Hull KR at the KC Stadium.
Hull played the wet conditions much better than Rovers, who were simply awful from start to finish.
Hull opened the scoring in 11th minute after creating an opening for Fetuli Talanoa to go over in the right hand corner. Jordan Rankin missed the conversion but Hull led 4-0.
Errors continued to stop Rovers in their tracks as they struggled to get out of their own end. The majority of their kicks in the first half came from within their own 40 metre line, but none came close to a 40/20. Hull did their part in pinning the Robins back with a solid defensive line.
In the 18th minute, Hull extended their lead. Setaimata Sa cut inside the Rovers defence on their left hand side to score. Rankin added the extras for a 10-0 lead.
Just before half-time, Hull added a Rankin penalty after a high shot on Gareth Ellis to make it 12-0 at the break.
Hull deserved their lead, but with just two converted tries between the two sides, it was all to play for in the second half.
Rovers needed the first try to keep the game alive, but it was Hull who scored to kill the game off.
Tom Lineham scored an unconverted try after some sloppy play by Kris Keating to make it 16-0.
Three minutes later, Jordan Thompson compounded Rovers' misery with the fourth Try of the night for the home fans to celebrate. Rankin' conversion made it 22-0 to Lee Radford's side, who avoided the red and whitewash for the season.
FC's objective now was a black and whitewash of their own by keeping Rovers to nil.
They did it too and they still managed to extend their lead. With Rovers attacking, Tom Lineham intercepted a Keating pass and returned it 90 metres for the score. Rankin converted to rub salt into Rovers' wounds.
Rovers are now four points behind Widnes with just two matches left to play. Hull moved to within a point of their rivals.
By nilling Rovers, Hull became the first side to keep a side scoreless in a derby since January 1983.
It was the first time in 57 years that Rovers had failed to score in a Hull derby.
