A former senior official at Rotherham Council during the years of ignored warnings about huge-scale sexual abuse and grooming is now in a senior safeguarding position at East Riding Council. An inquiry by Professor Alexis Jay detailed gang rapes, grooming, trafficking and other sexual exploitation on a wide scale in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Pam Allen, who now works for East Riding Council, was director of safeguarding at Rotherham from 2004-2009. East Riding Council confirmed Ms Allen is now head of children and young people's support and safeguarding services but declined to comment further. Ms Allen is listed in the back of Prof Jay's report as one of those interviewed. In a report in today's Independent, Prof Jay is quoted as saying: "I think it would be easy enough to look at the list of people I interviewed at the back of the report. "I'm not suggesting for a minute that anyone listed there is culpable but it's clear who the individuals are whom I have referred to in the report." Rotherham Council has said it was writing to the current employers of former officials still working in child protection because of the critical nature of the report.
