HULL FC's Richard Whiting looks set to miss the rest of the season, after electing to undergo wrist surgery.
The utility star has played on despite the problematic injury, but now appears to have admitted defeat.
Whiting is hoping his close-season rehab programme will enable him to be fit for the start of the 2015 campaign.
"We knew Rich needed an operation and we are looking now to get that done sooner rather than later to give him an opportunity to participate in pre-season," coach Lee Radford told the Mail.
Whiting is now expected to miss the derby game and will go under the knife in the coming days.
Radford has also confirmed he plans to make "two or three changes" to his side for Friday's third and final derby game of the year at the KC Stadium.
