Nigel Clough is keen on a loan deal that would see Harry Maguire return to Sheffield United just weeks after signing for Hull City, the South Yorkshire Times says.
Former Mail writer James Shield says any deal for the £2.5m-man would hinge on whether City can qualify for the Europa League group stage by coming from behind to beat Lokeren on Thursday evening.
Clough said: "We'd always be open to the prospect of Harry coming back if the chance arose.
"It might be interesting to see how things develop with (Michael) Dawson and also, I would imagine, how they do in Europe and also the League Cup."
Maguire, who started the first leg tie of the Europa League tie against Lokeren, made 166 appearances for United.
Clough added: "We know (City manager) Steve Bruce well. Meanwhile, Hull City have emerged as surprise contenders for the signature of £6.5m-rated FC Twente striker Luc Castaignos, according to Sport In A Storm.com.
The 21-year-old, who has scored 28 times in two years, has been heavily linked with a move to Swansea, but a deal fell through earlier this summer.
Now, reports in Holland suggest Bruce is interested in the former Inter Milan man, who attempted to deflect the speculation this week. "I'm only thinking about FC Twente and our European game next Thursday against Qarabag," he said.
