AN ICONIC club venue in Hull has been officially reopened by former Emmerdale star Gemma Oaten.
The old Tower nightclub on Anlaby Road is now called Funktion and last night's grand opening was attended by hundreds of people.
Hull-born Gemma took to Twitter to tell her followers how honoured she was to be asked to open the nightclub.
She tweeted: "Feels great to be asked. Our city is grand and it will keep getting better."
Gemma, who left Emmerdale earlier this year, was clearly happy to be back in her home town with her family and friends as she posted photos from inside the club.
Wearing a black top, leather jacket and white trousers Gemma looked happy and relaxed dancing the night away with old friends.
The actress cut the red ribbon with her older sister, Maria, by her side in front of a large crowd.
She also tweeted her thanks to the club's manager Adam Smith and the staff at Funktion: "Loved loved, Hull! Honestly had so much fun."
And asked if she enjoyed it, she said: "absolutely loved it!!! Head's sore".
The new venue has already started to attract top stars including British rapper Chipmunk who is performing at the club's Bank Holiday party tonight.
The venue was once a luxury cinema and later became a mecca for live music, with the likes of New Order and The Housemartins taking to the stage.
The venue reopened as a nightclub in 2012, after a £1.2m investment by despite attracting big acts such as Example and Professor Green, it struggled to attract crowds.
However, the new owners are confident that Funktion will be a big success.
Manager Adam Smith said: "We want to bring the big acts, live acts and get local businesses involved, as well as doing work for charity.
"We want to bring something different to Hull and try to offer something to suit everybody, from student nights, to rock nights."
