THE partner of a Hull dad who was murdered on New Year's Day has said no sentence would have been enough for his killers. Steven Herbert, 32, was beaten to death by a gang as he walked to a party along Beverley Road. Samuel Jordan, 22, Tiffany Clark, 24, and Soul Humphries, 22, were all jailed for life at Hull Crown Court today after being convicted of his murder. Jordan must serve a minimum of 15 years before being eligible for parole, while Clark must serve 14 years and Humphries 13-and-a-half years. Mr Herbert's long-term partner Kimberley Field said: "Nothing would have been good enough, whether it was 15 years or a hundred years, but we have some sort of justice for Steven. "I'm feeling devastated, heartbroken, every emotion possible." Mr Herbert suffered 12 injuries to his face and head, including a severe brain injury, after he was punched to the ground by Jordan and Humphries. While he lay unconscious on the floor, Clark punched him in the face and kicked him in the head. He died later that morning in Hull Royal Infirmary. Miss Field said her partner's death has left their daughters, Courtney and Ellie, devastated. "He was perfect," she said. "He was a loyal, loving man and we all miss him so much. His daughters miss him like mad. "They haven't been good but they are doing a bit better now. "They are doing really well at school to make their dad proud. They're trying hard." Judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, said it was a tragic loss of life. He told Jordan, Clark and Humphries: "This is a case about pointless, public, night-time violence on what should have been a night of joy and celebration." Judge Mettyear described Jordan as a "very dangerous man". The court heard he was jailed for four-and-half-years in 2009 for being part of a gang who tried to behead a man with a samurai sword during a break-in. Jordan, of Yarmouth Avenue, west Hull, and Clark, of Victor Street, east Hull, were also sentenced for violent attacks in the weeks before the murder, which will run concurrently with their life sentences. Humphries, of Rawcliffe Grove, west Hull, had no previous convictions for violence. Humberside Police Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Baldwin, who investigated the murder, said: "The sentences received by these three young people should send a clear message to those who engage in violent crime. "Of course, no sentence will ever bring Steven back and our thoughts are with his family." Adrienne Gower, Senior District Crown Prosecutor, CPS Yorkshire and Humberside said: "Our foremost thoughts are with the family of Mr Herbert. The loss of his life was a tragic waste - a result of a senseless act of drunken and extreme violence. "We have worked closely with the police to build a robust case to put before a jury. As a result, after a three week trial, Samuel Jordan, Soul Humphries and Tiffany Clark were all found guilty of murder and all sentenced to life imprisonment. "We hope that this brings some comfort to Steven's family and friends."
