The Mail's Sporting Champions Awards celebrate the best in professional and amateur sport. This week, we launched the 2014 awards and asked for nominations. Now, we need your vote for the best professional moments of the year in team and individual categories. Scroll down for the contenders and the poll.

ST Mary's College are delighted to once again be getting behind this year's Sporting Champions awards.

The College are sponsoring the professional moment of the year team award, a category director of sport at the college Mark Arridge says is close to the hearts of everyone on campus.

"Sport is a huge part of the city of Hull and an integral part of St Mary's College," he told the Mail.

"We recognise and value the power that sport has to transform lives but also provide fantastic memories of joys of success and help us learn key lifelong lessons from the sorrow of defeats.

"Our professional clubs on a yearly basis provide people from the city with these experiences, such as visits to Wembley for FA Cup or Challenge Cup finals or outstanding performances in their respective leagues.

"St Mary's has sponsored the award due to our close links with two of Hull's professional clubs.

"Our SM6 Rugby League Academy in partnership with Hull FC and SM6 Football Academy in partnership with the Hull City Tigers Sport and Education Trust provide students with the opportunity to gain an outstanding education combined with the opportunity to train like an elite sports person."

Contenders for the Professional Moment of the Year awards

Tommy Coyle beats Daniel Eduardo Brizuela in a contender for fight of the year

FEW had heard of Argentinian Brizuela when he arrived at the Hull Arena to compete with Coyle for his IBF International lightweight title.

The diminutive boxer had a good record, though, and when he sent Coyle to the canvas in the second round with a terrific body shot the home favourite looked in trouble.

Two further knock downs in the sixth and a fourth visit to the canvas in the 11th had Coyle set for defeat, but roared on by a deafening support, the Hull boxer came back and had Brizuela down three times himself. A fight nobody there will ever forget was finally ended in the final round with Coyle stopping his stubborn opponent.

Curtis Woodhouse fulfils a promise to his father and silences the critics forever by becoming British light-welterweight champion

THE former Premier League footballer turned boxer had already enjoyed a remarkable career inside the ring prior to a night that would define his legacy.

An English title triumph and defeat in his shot at the Commonwealth crown were further than most go, but on February 22, 2014 Woodhouse would realise a lifetime's ambition by landing the Lonsdale Belt with a points victory over champion Darren Hamilton.

Hull Stingrays create club record in January

HAVING racked up five straight wins, Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays were chasing a club record sixth in a row against Dundee Stars.

They fell behind to Nikita Kashirsky's strike, but Guillaume Doucet levelled for 1-1 before Nico Sacchetti restored Stars' lead in the second period.

Three goals in the last 10 minutes from Sylvain Cloutier, Omar Pacha and Pavel Gomeniuk sealed the 4-2 win.

A new star arrives as Hull reach season-high

TEENAGER Callum Lancaster grabbed a hat-trick in only his third game as Hull FC ran up their biggest win of the season.

Hull FC headed to Widnes Vikings on June 13 with little form to boast about, but returned home with a crushing victory that would ignite their play-off hopes.

Star of the show was 17-year-old winger Callum Lancaster who, a week after scoring a double at London, picked up his first Super League hat-trick with a breath-taking display of pace.

Craig Hall nicks derby win for Rovers

WHEN the two derby rivals met for the first time in Super League in 2014 optimism was still high regarding what the season may bring.

An encounter dominated by Hull KR didn't bring the rewards the hosts had anticipated at the KC Lightstream Stadium as FC stubbornly clawed their way back into the game.

A draw seemed to be on the cards, then with 45 seconds remaining Craig Hall popped up to slot over a drop goal to send the home fans wild and Hull home empty handed.

Hull City go close to winning the FA Cup final

ON Saturday, May 17 the eyes of the football world were on Wembley watching as something incredible was happening. Hull City, a club not so long from going out of existence, were beating the mighty Arsenal 2-0.

Goals from James Chester and Curtis Davies had sent the Tigers faithful into delirium and while Arsenal came back to break City's hearts, the occasion will never be forgotten for those lucky Hull fans in attendance.

A Wembley thriller as Hull City make history

STEVE Bruce guided Hull City to a first-ever appearance in the FA Cup final thanks to a second-half comeback that cut down the Blades of Sheffield United.

Trailing 2-1 at the break after Yannick Sagbo's goal was sandwiched either side of scores from Jose Baxter and Stefan Scougall, the Tigers turned things around in the second half to book an appointment with Arsenal.

Scoring three times in 18 minutes, Matty Fryatt, Tom Huddlestone and Stephen Quinn put City on their way to the final and while a late goal gave Sheffield a flicker of hope, Stephen Quinn sealed the win and a memorable day.

Tigers upset the title hopefuls with first-ever win over Liverpool

HULL City beat Liverpool for the first time in 17 attempts with a 3-1 success at the KC Stadium to shock the Premier League title hopefuls.

Jake Livermore put the hosts ahead on 20 minutes before Steven Gerrard equalised.

Having lost to Crystal Palace the week before, the Tigers bounced back in style with one of their best display of the season and got their rewards through a David Meyler second-half goal and a late Martin Skrtel own goal.
