A CHRISTIAN who vowed not to have sex before marriage has been cleared of rape.
Adam Burdall, 23, had been accused of raping a woman while she slept and while she was unconscious through drugs.
He was today found not guilty of all four charges of rape following a four-day trial at Hull Crown Court.
A jury of seven men and five women took just an hour of deliberations to return unanimous verdicts.
The court had earlier heard the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
After the verdicts were returned, Recorder Tahir Khan QC told Mr Burdall's barrister, Patrick Palmer: "Mr Palmer, he can be discharged, the case is finished."
Speaking outside court after the verdict, Mr Burdall, of Southgate, Hutton Cranswick, near Driffield, said: "I'm relieved I can finally put it all behind me and get on with my life."
