YOUNG entrepreneurs with a taste for business are finding new opportunities at an outdoor market in the city centre.
Trinity Open Market has joined forces with Hull Youth Enterprise to offer young people the chance to start their own business.
This week, the market celebrates its second anniversary and founder Julie Buffey is now taking steps to safeguard its future.
She said: "We want to get more young people involved with the market and attract people from diverse backgrounds.
"I try to keep my finger on the pulse but it's not always easy and the market will benefit from getting younger traders."
The team is running a special market with live music on Friday, August 1, which they hope will attract more youngsters to the Old Town.
Julie has been working with Hull Youth Enterprise to break down some of the barriers for young business owners and help them with some of the financial hurdles.
Josh Robinson, 16, has received an £800 grant to start his own clothing business and he will be one of the first young traders to take advantage of the initiative.
Mike Notarantonio, of Hull Youth Enterprise, said he hopes their offer, which will cover the cost of public liability insurance for young traders, will encourage entrepreneurship.
He said: "Josh is one of the young people we support through the Youth Bank grants and he is an ideal candidate for this scheme.
"Although his plan is to sell his clothing online, we've advised him to try selling some of his wares at the market first.
"Selling online is very different and customers don't have to chance to touch or feel and see the quality of the clothing on offer. He will get the benefit of experience in selling his clothes directly to customers and getting feedback from them."
Julie agrees that young people will benefit from the experience of being on a market stall. She said: "Young people can learn from the more experienced traders and see the best way to display their goods and how to interact with customers."
"It offers young people a confidence they might not get elsewhere – you can see the difference in the ones who succeed and the ones who don't."
