Paloma Faith, Sherrie Hewson, Frank Skinner and Keith Harris and Orville part of Hull's City Hall and New Theatre season

Culture vultures of all ages and tastes can prepare to feast on a full programme of entertainment with the launch of the autumn/winter brochure for Hull New Theatre and Hull City Hall.

The season will be packed with everything from show-stopping musicals and top-name comedians, to opera and dance productions.

Helping to get things off to a truly explosive start at Hull New Theatre is Rock Of Ages, from Monday, September 29.

Described as the "ultimate party show", this musical comedy is an LA love story lavished with more than 25 classic rock anthems, all performed by an epic live band.

A "captivating tale of irrepressible imagination and dreams", acclaimed musical Barnum also arrives from Tuesday, October 21.

Following the life of America's Greatest Showman, PT Barnum, it stars Brian Conley and boasts a memorable score and impressive physical stunts.

Local theatre group One Off Productions' interpretation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King And I, runs from Tuesday, November 4.

A classic musical with a distinct Oriental feel, this spectacular is laced with romantic undertones.

There is plenty on offer for the children this season, too, as Horrible Histories returns with its latest show, Barmy Britain, from Tuesday, October 14.

Using 3D effects, audiences will be taken on a journey through time to meet history's most notorious characters.

Youngest fans of theatre are catered for with a wealth of shows, ranging from What The Ladybird Heard on Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31, to Sooty onSaturday, September 13, and Milkshake! Live on Saturday, October 11.

The year ends in traditional style with the annual Hull New Theatre pantomime – this year a lavish production of Aladdin.

Running from Thursday, December 4, it will star actress and Loose Women presenter Sherrie Hewson, ventriloquist Keith Harris and his nappy-wearing green duck Orville and Cuddles, the irascible monkey.

Firmly established as one of the leading comedy venues in the region, Hull City Hall will this season welcome famous names such as Al Murray Noel Fielding, Omid Djalili, Jon Richardson, Jim- my Carr and Frank Skinner.

Hull City Hall's Mortimer Suite will also be playing host to four dedicated Friday evenings from the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, between September and December, which will be showcase the talents of up-and-coming comedians, as well as some recognisable TV stand-ups.

Dance fans will be in their element this season, as the Russian State Ballet presents four of its acclaimed productions, Coppélia, La Fille Mal Gardée, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, in the new year.

From classical to contemporary, an array of pop acts are on the agenda this season, as the likes of Paloma Faith, Shane Filan and Collabro, with Lucy Kay, arrive at Hull City Hall.
