A MAN from the Holderness Road area of east Hull has been named as the crewman killed on an oil industry supply vessel in the North Sea days before Christmas.
Grampian Police has confirmed Joseph Laws, 50, died aboard the Vos Sailor, which was hit by a 'freak' wave about 120 miles off Aberdeen on December 15.
Other crew members had to be airlifted to safety from the stricken boat, while a rescue winchman stayed aboard despite breaking a bone in his foot.
Further details of the accident are not known. An inquest will be held.
Mr Laws' funeral will take place at 11.30am on Friday in the large chapel of Chanterlands Avenue crematorium. The family has asked for donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Mission to Seafarers.
