A YOUNG man who died from the same cancer as his father will be remembered at what will be an emotional event next weekend. Carl Watson died from Hodgkin's lymphoma at his home on Hull's Bransholme estate in November. He was 22. The cancer also took the life of his dad Les two years earlier. Now, one of Carl's closest friends will hold an event in his memory. About 400 people are expected to fill Jaz Bar, in Lowgate, Hull, on Sunday. The special night, named 'Unforgettable', will get under way at 7pm. Organiser Lizzie Clarkson said: "Carl was one of the nicest and most inspirational people you could ever wish to meet. "I went to Kingswood College of Arts with him and he was not only popular, but so polite. He would do anything for anyone. "The last few months have been extremely difficult for everyone connected to Carl and I feel now is the right time to say one last goodbye to him – although he will never be forgotten. "I want to keep his spirit alive. "He died of the same disease his dad died from and how his mum Debbie is still standing, I will never know. She is a credit and an example to everyone. "This event is for her as much as it is for Carl." All the proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity which Carl himself raised thousands of pounds for before his death. Indeed, Carl was well known for his fundraising efforts and supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Castle Hill Hospital, where he received treatment. Over the years, the passionate Hull FC fan helped raise thousands of pounds for the charity. Two months before his death, Carl began suffering severe pain and was admitted to hospital. He then decided he wanted to be at home with his family. He died at his home on November 7, surrounded by family members, including his mum. Miss Clarkson, 22, said: "My aim is to raise £2,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust – that is the bare minimum. "If we can get more than that, then brilliant. "The capacity of Jaz Bar is 450 and I think we will go very close to filling that. "There will be an entry fee and then there will be a raffle. People will have the chance to win a signed Hull City shirt, which even has all the new signings on like Robert Snodgrass and Tom Ince. "There will also be a signed Hull FC rugby ball. Carl was passionate about his sport, especially Hull FC and Hull City. "My message would be to anyone who knew Carl, or to anyone who wants to support his family, to come out and help raise money for a great cause." More than 400 attended Carl's funeral last year. It was one of the largest services seen at the chapel in Hull's Chanterlands Avenue. As the funeral procession headed into the crematorium grounds, his sister Nicki Stork ran ahead of the white Hull FC-clad horses, clutching a picture of her brother, and followed by an entourage of sports cars – another one of Carl's passions. Carl was told in 2011 that his condition was incurable and he only had months to live. But he was determined to prove doctors wrong and managed to fight the cancer for another two years. Tickets for Unforgettable can be bought in advance from Jaz Bar at £3. They will be £5 on the night. For further details about the event, call Miss Clarkson on 07763 222400 or Jaz Bar on 01482 228063.
