A BOXING coach is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for a canine charity by taking part in an unusual sponsored event.
Gordon Haigh, who is head coach at Hull Saint's Amateur Boxing Club, is aiming to hold the plank position for about 40 minutes.
He wants to raise £1,000 for Dogs For The Disabled.
He decided to do the challenge after one of the club's members said she was fundraising for the charity, which provides dogs who offer assistance to disabled adults and children.
He said: "One of our members said she was fundraising, so I said I would try to raise funds as well.
"The plank is a core muscle exercise which we do with the lads in the gym.
"I thought if I could do this for 40 minutes, I could try to raise some money and help the charity."
Mr Haigh is doing his sponsored plank on Saturday at West Hull Rugby Club.
He will begin the challenge at 7.30pm and will be cheered on by members of the boxing club.
There will also be some dogs from the charity at the event.
Mr Haigh, 51, said: "I will hold the position for as long as I possibly can.
"I am quite fit, I have always boxed myself from when I was nine and became a professional boxer aged 25.
"I want to get as much money as I can for Dogs For The Disabled.
"We did about 20 minutes in the gym the other night with the lads and it was fine, I could have done more so, hopefully, I will manage to get to the 40 minutes to raise as much as I can."
Hull Saints, in West Dock Street, has about 100 members.
Dogs For The Disabled is a pioneering charity that trains assistance dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities, and families with a child with autism.
The dogs help with everyday practical tasks.
They can also give people the confidence to go out and create fresh opportunities, such as forging new friendships and taking part in education.
