A 70-year-old man claimed more than £7,000 in benefits while working as a taxi driver. David Turton, 70, formerly of Tower Street, Flamborough, pleaded guilty to failing to promptly declare a change of circumstances affecting his entitlement to council tax benefit and pension credits. Bridlington Magistrates' Court sentenced him to a three-year conditional discharge and ordered him to repay £7,295.95 he fraudulently claimed between June 2010 and August 2013. The case was brought to court after information was passed to East Riding Council about Turton failing to declare he had been working as a taxi driver. Anyone who suspects benefit fraud in the East Riding can email benefit.fraud@eastriding.gov.uk, call the 24-hour benefit fraud hotline in confidence on 01482 394949 or text 07786 200850.
