HULL lost 48-32 in a high-scoring game at Luctonians, but gave the hosts a run for their money.

The visitors were always a real threat with the ball in hand.

With half the side under 23, it was a steep learning curve for many of the players with replacement centre Jack Hewitt and Morgan Robinson-Eames, in the second row, showing signs of real talent.

After having a try disallowed in the first minute, Luctonians kept up the pressure and Morfell plunged over after six minutes.

This was soon followed by a longer range effort when the home side's Drew Cheshire went in under the posts, giving centre Morris the easiest of goal kicks.

Hull's response came from Wigglesworth, who collected a loose ball and beat four defenders on his way to a fine individual try that Greg Lound converted.

A few minutes later, Luctonians' dominance of possession paid off when Jimmy Norris waltzed over for an unconverted try.

Lound kicked a penalty after 26 minutes, but Luctonians' pack worked a classic catch and drive try, awarded to Davidson.

Hull applied pressure of their own and Motu Tony took a short ball to go over unopposed, giving Lound the easiest of conversions.

As half-time approached, Hull conceded field position and Luctonians made no mistake with a well-worked catch and drive try, which Morris converted for 29-17.

The second half began with Luctonians dominating possession and Cheshire ran in his second try after just four minutes.

Lound's penalty gave Hull some relief and a 50-yard break by Hull's scrum-half Danny White should have produced a score but a dropped ball saw the chance go begging.

After 54 minutes Hull's pack gave away a penalty try, which Morris converted.

After having Doughty yellow carded, Cheshire put the game beyond Hull when he raced in for his third try which Morris converted.

Hull dug deep and responded magnificently with a length-of-the-field interception try by Wigglesworth that he converted himself.

A searing break by Hewitt was rounded off by winger Steve Slingsby for the final score.
