A councillor says a statue of Amy Johnson in Hull city centre should be binned.
Councillor Tom McVie was speaking at a planning committee meeting, where proposals for a £25m makeover of the city centre were discussed. And while those plans contain dozens of new design ideas, including glass towers to mark the original Beverley Gate, Cllr McVie thinks a current landmark should be removed. In recent years, he has made no secret of his dislike of the Amy Johnson statue that stands outside the Prospect shopping centre, which he has previously labelled an eyesore. He wasted no time in reminding colleagues once again at yesterday's meeting.
"The best thing for the Amy Johnson statue is to put it in Princes Dock rather than leaving it where it is now," he said.
