A MAN has admitted murdering Keith Opray, who was stabbed to death at his home in Bransholme.
Duncan Heaton, 41, pleaded guilty to murder and theft this morning at Hull Crown Court.
Mr Opray, 51, was found dead at his home in Wareham Close on January 25. He had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Heaton then stole several items from Mr Opray's home.
Detective Superintendent Matthew Hutchinson, who led the investigation into Mr Opray's death, said: "The deceased was a vulnerable member of the community who had every right to believe he was safe in his own home.
"Heaton attended on the day of the incident and during the course of that visit stole from the deceased and subjected him to a vicious attack where he sustained multiple stab wounds.
"Heaton then left the flat and proceeded to sell all the property he had stolen from the flat for practically nothing.
"The response from the community as they found out about the murder was overwhelming, with numerous calls about who may be responsible and information that assisted in locating the property that had been stolen.
"Now, Heaton faces a lengthy custodial sentence for his crime and I am sure the public is safer with him imprisoned.
"Whilst I am pleased that Heaton has pleaded guilty, today my thoughts remain with the family and friends of Keith Opray who have had taken from them a much loved son, brother and friend."
Heaton, of St Ives Close, Bransholme, admitted stealing an Xbox games console and games, an Acer tablet and charger, a mobile phone and charger, a holdall, cash, cards and papers, a money box and a wallet.
He will be sentenced later this month.
